Possible conflicts with already existing databases

On the normal circumstances there should not be any problem with using the MySQL database. All needed components are installed as part of the software installation process. The database is automatically started when this application software is started.

Nevertheless, Murphy's law applies to us as to anybody in the IT world! There can be rare situations when our MySQL database installation conflicts with another MySQL installation, which is already present on your PC. This is due to particular features of this widespread and very good database management system (don't worry: even the great and expensive names have similar problems!).

You will typically be informed about the presence of such problems by a user notification from our application software, which is given to you right after starting the application, saying that the database driver could not be found. In all such cases there is already a MySQL database driver running in the background on your PC. This driver conflicts with the database DLL of our application. In such cases only one of these DLL can run at a given time.

There is only one way to circumvent these concurrency problems: remove (i.e. "kill") the already running MySQL DLL. You can do so by using a Task manager of your Windows operating system. Our support will help you to determine the conflicting DLL.

On the Windows versions based on the Windows NT operating system (such as Windows 2000 and later) the name of the conflicting MySQL DLL should be "mysqld-nt.exe".

Another alternative to killing this process is to reboot your PC. This will only clear the situation if the already existing MySQL installation does not perform an automatic loading of this MySQL DLL when your PC is started. In such cases you would have to remove this automatic loading of the MySQL DLL or you would have to kill the process.

If you should incur such problems please address yourself to the support for this software.
